Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White dies aged 74

Maurice White, the co-founder and leader of seminal R&B; band Earth, Wind & Fire, died in Los Angeles on February 3 at the age of 74, following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

White’s brother Verdine White, himself a bass player in the band, posted the following message on the band’s Facebook page: “My brother, hero and best friend Maurice White passed away peacefully last night in his sleep. While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.”
